Discovery and growth as an Artist
We all experience changes, planned and unplanned, in our lives, and with those changes, comes growth. One of my recent discoveries has been a medium called cold wax. A medium is something you mix with your paint to change its consistency and it effects appearance as well as drying time of the paint. I have been experimenting with adding cold wax to my paint and really like the effects. It basically gives the paint a more matte finish and I can use it to build layers of color to the painting. There are new tools I'm using to apply and manipulate the paint, too, like a small kitchen squeegee, a brayer (like used for rolling ink in printmaking), in addition to my palette knives. I am moving toward a desire to produce more abstract style paintings, and to paint larger.
Here is an example of a small painting I created, playing with cold wax:

Yes, this is a departure from my traditional subject matter of landscapes, because this was a painting created for a "cross wall" at my church.
I am working to take on this amazing texture and layering of colors into my love of landscapes. Here is one I recently finished:

Discovering new tools has brought new life and excitement to my painting practice, and I'm looking forward to more experimenting with cold wax.
Thanks for viewing my work!
