About the Artist

Lori Lamb - Biography

Lori's inspiration comes from an emotional response, generated by an encounter with her subject matter. It could be the interaction of intense colors, the play of light and shadow, the direct gaze into the eyes of a portrait model, or the body language of a figure that expresses their innermost thoughts in that moment in time.

Tightly defined renderings evolve to include more texture and layers of color applied with glazes of paint or with paint mixed with cold wax medium. Beginning with sketches in either pencil or charcoal, Lori works out proportions and likeness, and then moves to painting with oils on canvas. The paintings start with a free hand under painting on a toned canvas and build-up in layers to complete the finished piece.

During the pandemic, in-person drawing sessions have not been available, and Lori has turned to social media and Zoom model sessions to continue to grow her skills as an artist. This has led to connections with people all over the world who generously allow her to use their photos for inspiration.

Lori's training includes a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY and she continues her education by taking courses from artists in person and online.
